ARTIST STATEMENT

I trained as a silversmith and a ceramicist, gaining a BA in Design Crafts. My early ceramic work was heavily influenced by artefacts of the Italian Renaissance in particular, and Italy remains a source of inspiration to me. I am drawn to bold colour and am ever searching for my visual dopamine hit.

I am inspired by strong female icons, and seek to celebrate the power and beauty of women. During the pandemic and extended lockdowns, I turned to my painting for escapism and started to represent destinations that have shaped my own choice of visual language such as the Amalfi Coast, and the Riviera Maya. I am drawn to places where the natural beauty and climate have influenced belief systems for millennia, and I am interested in investigating belief systems and mythology.

I am based in near the border of East Sussex and Kent, in beautiful English countryside. The local landscape, from its wild spaces to its cultivated gardens are a source of inspiration to me. Again connections are made between the past and the present, and the histories and narratives that give such bucolic scenes hidden depths.
